Filecoin is creating a comprehensive platform to provide a peer-to-peer storage sharing among a large group of users around the world. The idea is that one of the major problems the IT industry projects facing at the moment is not the lack of storage, but the inefficient distribution of it. Most projects need terabytes upon terabytes of space to stare the enormous amounts of data taken up by their work. All the while, millions of people are walking around the world with literally hundreds of gigabytes and even terabytes of the storage space that goes simply unused, not bringing them any profit or really without advantaging their lives in any way. So, Filecoin would allow people with unused storage to connect to the cloud, offering the space on their computers, phones or other devices, obviously allowing to decide how much space they want to loan and for how long. Meanwhile, the projects that need some space would connect to the same network and take up that space in the cloud, paying with the tokens.
