Binance Coin (BNB) is the native cryptocurrency of Binance Smart Chain (BEP-20) and Binance Chain (BEP-2). It was initially launched in 2017 on the Ethereum blockchain and is now integral to the Binance ecosystem. BNB was introduced through an initial coin offering (ICO) where half of its maximum supply of 200 million tokens was sold to the public, with the remainder allocated to angel investors and founders. Originally created as a utility token to offer discounted trading fees, BNB’s functionality has expanded significantly, serving many roles both within and outside Binance.
