WETH, or Wrapped Ether, is an ERC-20 token that represents Ethereum (ETH) on the blockchain at a 1:1 ratio. It was designed because ETH isn't natively compatible with the ERC-20 standard commonly used in DeFi. Key features include tokenizing ETH for DeFi protocols, enabling ETH trading on ERC-20 DEXs, maintaining a 1:1 value with ETH through a smart contract system, allowing users to 'wrap' ETH into WETH by sending ETH to the contract and receiving WETH, and 'unwrapping' WETH back into ETH by sending WETH to the contract and receiving ETH.
