ERC404 is an experimental project that attempts to combine the ERC20 and ERC721 token standards, enabling both liquidity and fractional ownership. Because these standards were not designed to work together, this implementation aims to achieve a robust integration while minimizing compromises. Currently, ERC404 either keeps the logic of the two standards separate or uses a pathing system where token amounts and IDs share space. This pathing is a lossy encoding scheme, assuming that very small token transfers using ID space are rare or unnecessary. This standard is highly experimental and hasn't been audited. While testing has been done to ensure accuracy, the mixed nature of the standards means integrated protocols might not fully understand its combined functionality.
