Fantom, launched in 2018, is a high-performance smart contract platform utilizing a directed acyclic graph (DAG) to address limitations of older blockchains. It aims to solve the blockchain Scalability Trilemma by achieving decentralization, security, and scalability simultaneously, targeting over 300,000 transactions per second. Fantom's modular architecture, powered by the Lachesis consensus mechanism, allows for flexible integration with various distributed ledgers. Lachesis, an asynchronous Byzantine Fault Tolerance (aBFT) algorithm, ensures high decentralization and rapid transaction finality (1-2 seconds), even with a third of nodes being faulty.
