Altcoin Season Index
Shows whether the market is in Bitcoin season or altcoin season, based on how the top 50 altcoins performed against Bitcoin over the last 90 days.
44
/100How the index is calculated
We take the 50 largest altcoins by market cap, excluding stablecoins, tokenized gold and wrapped, staked or bridged copies of other coins, and count how many of them beat Bitcoin's price change over the last 90 days. The index is that share, from 0 to 100. 75 and above — altcoin season, 25 and below — Bitcoin season. History before hourly snapshots is rebuilt from daily candles of today's top altcoins, so coins that dropped out of the top earlier are not included.
FAQ
What is altcoin season?+
A period when most large altcoins grow faster than Bitcoin. By the usual definition it starts when at least 75% of the top 50 altcoins outperform Bitcoin over 90 days.
Why are stablecoins excluded?+
Stablecoins and wrapped or staked copies follow the price of another asset, so they never outperform on their own and would only dilute the index.
How should I use the index?+
As a measure of where the market's momentum is. A rising index means capital is rotating into altcoins; a falling one means Bitcoin leads. It describes the past 90 days and does not predict the future.
