Mina Protocol, established in 2017, is a layer-1 blockchain designed to address the problem of large computational requirements for blockchain validation. Unlike many blockchains where nodes store the entire transaction history, leading to a growing ledger size, Mina employs a 'succinct blockchain' approach. Its blocks are a fixed 22KB in size, achieved through zero-knowledge technology, allowing for the development of zkApps. MINA, the protocol's native cryptocurrency (total supply: 946,246,493), facilitates network transactions and rewards network security contributors.
