Coldcard is a hardware wallet for storing bitcoin, developed by Coinkite Inc., a company based in Toronto, Canada. The device keeps private keys offline and signs transactions in an air-gapped manner, exchanging data with a computer or mobile app through microSD cards or QR codes. Its firmware is open source. Coinkite was founded in 2013, and the Coldcard wallet was first released in 2018.
The wallet supports bitcoin only and is designed for users who prefer self-custody and manage their own keys, including multisignature setups compatible with the PSBT standard. Its interface uses a small screen and physical buttons, and it works with a range of third-party wallet software.
The CMC Score combines public data — traffic, app ratings, security record, age, community and market size — with users' reviews. Missing data is skipped rather than counted as zero, and the less is known about a company, the closer its score stays to the middle of the scale.
