Begonnen im März 2020 ist Balancer ein dezentraler Börse-Protokoll, das auf Ethereum basiert. Es nutzt einen automatisierten Marktmacher (AMM), der den Handel mit ERC20-Token ohne Orderbuch ermöglicht. Balancer erstellt Liquiditätspools, die von Smart Contracts verwaltet werden und aus denen Gelder für den Handel entnommen werden. Anfangs hatte Balancer keinen eigenen Token, aber später wurde der BAL-Governance-Token eingeführt. Dieser Token erlaubt es den Inhabern, durch Abstimmungen die Richtung des Protokolls zu bestimmen und belohnt Liquiditätsanbieter.
