What is THORChain (RUNE)?

THORChain is a layer-1 protocol designed to enable instant cryptocurrency transfers between different blockchains. It allows users to trade digital assets across various chains in a fully decentralized manner. Founded in 2018, the project was created to address issues associated with centralized exchanges used for transferring crypto-assets between blockchains. The team envisioned an independent blockchain capable of bridging external networks, thereby facilitating cross-chain transactions similar to how decentralized exchanges (DEXs) operate. At launch, THORChain supported assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Binance Smart Chain, and Litecoin, with ongoing expansion to include more tokens and assets.
