What is THORChain (RUNE)?

THORChain is a layer-1 protocol designed to enable instant cryptocurrency transfers between different blockchains. It allows users to trade digital assets across various chains in a fully decentralized manner. Founded in 2018, the project was created to address issues associated with centralized exchanges used for transferring crypto-assets between blockchains. The team envisioned an independent blockchain capable of bridging external networks, thereby facilitating cross-chain transactions similar to how decentralized exchanges (DEXs) operate.
