Ordinals is a system for embedding data directly onto individual satoshis, the smallest units of Bitcoin. This process, called inscription, allows a significant amount of information (like text, images, audio, or video) to be stored on the Bitcoin blockchain itself, without requiring separate tokens or altering the core Bitcoin protocol. Given Bitcoin's 2100 trillion satoshis, this opens possibilities for storing various types of data, although the current size limitations of Bitcoin blocks tend to favor NFTs and tokens comprised of text and images.
