New BitShares (NBS) is a blockchain operating on a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism. It is a fork of the original BitShares (BTS) network, created to address certain features that the BitShares community did not approve, with the goal of supporting decentralized finance (DeFi) and decentralized exchange (DEX) applications.
