The CargoX project has recognized an enormous problem that the global trade industry faces at the moment: the bill of lading, the most important document in the entire process of the international trade, is all at once a waste of paper, and also not very secure document that is prone to being lost, damaged or irreparably torn after experiencing some light moisture. The CargoX’s plan is, therefore, to replace the traditional bill of lading with an Ethereum-based contract, a “smart” bill of lading, which would be, first of all, absolutely secure, since the blocks cannot be hacked, second of all, impossible to damage during the voyage, and really dependent only on the Ethereum system itself to run it properly. The usage of their smart bill of lading would, according to the words of the CargoX’s developers, save the money, time and millions of tonnes of paper around the world, proving usefulness not only for the companies whose engagement with the ports would be faster and more convenient, but, ultimately, to the consumers too.
